It’s no joke that coffee snobs take their coffee very seriously, and why not? The flavor notes that can be appreciated in coffee are plentiful and when you know how to develop them it’s satisfying and soothing.

The gifts for coffee snobs on this list are designed to help coffee connoisseurs grind, and/or brew their coffee just the way they like it. Some of them will also appeal to coffee lovers on the go.

This list of coffee gifts is arranged in 4 sections:

Let’s get started with coffee grinders. Every coffee snob will agree that grinding the beans fresh is essential.

Coffee Grinders for Coffee Snobs

When you’re considering getting a coffee grinder as a gift, you’ll want to look at burr grinders, not blade grinders.

Why are burr grinders better? Burr grinders grind the coffee beans to a consistent size, whereas blade grinders chop them up into different-sized chunks. The more consistent the size, the better the flavor (to a discerning pallet) because it’s a more even brew.

Here’s a short video that explains the basics of grinding coffee beans.

The following electric coffee grinders all feature stainless steel burr grinders and have a good number of settings. The fourth option is a manual, portable ceramic burr grinder.

This piece of coffee gear is a fundamental tool for getting the best out of your coffee beans at home.

1. Bodum Bistro Burr Coffee Grinder (Budget Option)

This is a great little burr grinder with 14 grind settings. You can go from french press to espresso grinds with ease. It weighs just over 7 pounds and is 7.5 x 7 x 12.5 inches in size.

One nice feature is that the container which catches the coffee grounds is made of glass. This reduces static which causes the grounds to scatter (jump) and spill over the counter. It also comes in a number of colors, like red, green and blue.

This grinder is best for french press, drip coffee machines, stovetop espresso (moka pot) and Chemex. It may be lacking if your coffee snob is really serious about their espresso grind.

2. Baratza Encore Burr Coffee Grinder (Mid Range)

The Baratza Encore is a very popular burr grinder with 40 grind settings including espresso. It weighs just under 7 pounds and is 6.3 x 4.7 x 13.8 inches in size, with a 5 oz grounds bin capacity.

It’s easy to use and clean, but there can be a little issue with static build-up scattering the grounds, so just tap the grounds bin a few times before removing it.

This grinder is great for french press, drip coffee machines, stovetop espresso (moka pot) Chemex… and espresso machines with a pressurized portafilter. But when it comes to coffee snobs with a non-pressurized portafilter, you’ll need a different grinder – that’s where the next option comes in.

Even the Wirecutter loves this grinder.

3. Breville Smart Grinder Pro (Premium)

This burr grinder has 60 grind settings which include french press and espresso. It weighs just under 6 and a half pounds and is 8.5 x 6.2 x 15.2 inches in size.

This is a programmable grinder with settings like “shots” for espresso, and “cups” for french press coffee. You can also program the grind time, so you have control over precise measurements.

If your coffee snob is into espresso the Breville Smart Grinder has you covered. They can set it up to dispense the grounds directly into their portafilter if they like.

4. JavaPresse Manual Grinder (Manual/Portable)

The JavaPresse Manual Grinder is a burr grinder for the coffee snob who needs their freshly ground coffee beans anywhere, and everywhere. It’s a manual, portable, ceramic conical burr grinder.

This durable coffee grinder is constructed of stainless steel. It has 4 grind settings, coarse, medium coarse, medium, and fine.

This will keep your coffee snob happy (even while camping/hiking) with grinds for french press, Areopress, moka pot (and more).

Coffee Makers for Coffee Snobs

An interesting thing about most coffee snobs is that they like to brew coffee in many ways. They may have their favorite method, but they enjoy experimenting.

The following list covers a number of different brewing methods: automatic drip, pour over, french press…

Let’s get started with a coffee maker grinder combo.

1. Cuisinart Burr Grind & Brew Thermal 12 Cup Automatic Coffeemaker

This is not your average coffeemaker. It’s got a built-in burr grinder and a lot of other features that ensure the perfect cup every time.

It’s got a 12-cup double-walled stainless steel thermal carafe designed to keep your coffee hot. There is a strength selector for mild, medium, or strong coffee. The grind control allows you to choose from 2 to 12 cups, and the charcoal water filter helps to remove impurities and keep the coffee tasting great.

The 24-hour programmable feature really adds to the convenience factor.

2. The Kalita Copper Coffee Dripper

If your coffee snob loves pour-over coffee this may be just the coffee dripper for him/her.

This dripper is completely handmade by craftsmen of Tsubame-shi in the Niigata Prefecture which is in the Chūbu (Hokuriku) region of Japan known for its craftsmanship (the same place Apple got the metal for their iPods).

Check current prices on Amazon or eBay

It carries the engraved mark “Made in Tsubame” a mark which is only given to products that pass approval by the Tsubame Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

So when you give the Kalita Copper Coffee Dripper you’re giving more than a high-quality coffee dripper, you’re giving a cool story as well.

3. The Secura Stainless Steel French Press Coffee Maker

This is a well-loved, top-quality double-walled (18/10 inside and out) stainless steel French Press coffee maker.

This 34-ounce/1000 ml French Press is designed to last and keep coffee hot longer than most models on the market. Its filter is also stainless steel and has a three-layered structure that traps the smallest of grounds. This aids in keeping coffee smooth and giving it a full-bodied flavor.

It has a cool touch handle and knob, and all its parts are dishwasher-safe. And it’s oh-so-shiny.

4. The Chemex Classic Series, Pour-over Glass Coffeemaker

There’s no question that this is among the best of the gifts for coffee snobs. Many coffee lovers swear by their Chemex. But why?

Much of the secret is in the type of glass, and the thickness of the filters. The glass is non-porous Borosilicate glass which does not absorb chemical residues or odors and handles heat exceptionally well. The filters are extra thick as well, which means the brewing process is slower than other pour-over methods. This helps bring out the flavor notes in the coffee.

Check current prices on Amazon and Chemex

It also looks cool, like something from your high-school chemistry class. (If you order one don’t forget the special filters.)

5. AeroPress Coffee and Espresso Maker

This coffee maker makes coffee and espresso-style coffee.

It uses total immersion and rapid filtering which coffee snobs love because the result is a coffee with low acidity, full of flavor notes.

It combines a French Press type immersion with an espresso-style pressure brewing. You use a plunger to rapidly force the water through the grounds, this is done by hand (without electricity). Because this is a fast process the coffee does not have time to develop bitterness.

This is great for use at home and is also lightweight and perfect for camping and backpacking. It’s made of phthalate and bisphenol-A (BPA) free plastic.

If you choose this gift for your favorite coffee snob, you might want to also include some extra filters.

Espresso Machines for Coffee Snobs

In the wonderful world of coffee, an espresso machine is a lovely creature. Espresso is the blissful ingredient in all the best coffee drinks, lattes, coffee Americano, cappuccino, mocha, macchiato…

Giving a coffee lover an espresso machine is like allowing them to open a box of fancy coffee options right in their own home. 🙂

Helpful tip: If you’re going to gift coffee along with the machine it’s best to go with a coffee that’s fresh and not too oily, oily beans/grounds are not good for these espresso machines. See a few recommendations at the end of the post.

1. Breville Barista Express Espresso Machine

This espresso machine has a built-in stainless steel conical burr grinder. So if you were thinking about getting your coffee snob a burr grinder and/or an espresso machine this might be a good machine to consider.

This is a tested and true little workhorse among coffee lovers. It’s got a 15 Bar Italian Pump and a 1600W heating system. It will automatically adjust water temperature after steam for optimal espresso extraction.

Check current prices on Amazon and Bed Bath & Beyond

The water tank is removable and has a 67 fl.oz (2 L) capacity. It also comes with a 54mm tamper for expert tamping control.

2. DeLonghi Magnifica Espresso/Coffee Machine

The DeLonghi Magnifica comes with a burr grinder, so you can grind your beans fresh every time.

It is fully automatic and programmable so each family member can program in their favorite coffee drink (espresso, cappuccino, latte…) and the machine will remember how to serve it up just the way you like it, every time.

Check current prices on Amazon or Walmart

Coffee snobs will also love the patented “Cappuccino System” frother that mixes steam and milk to add a rich, creamy froth to their coffee. This espresso maker has a stainless-steel double boiler, which provides excellent heat distribution, and an instant reheat function, which keeps the machine at an ideal temperature, no matter how long the interval between cups. And it’s easy to clean.

3. Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista Espresso/Cappuccino Maker

This is a great little budget espresso maker option. It’s got lots of nice features like an electric 15-bar pump that creates powerful pressure to extract bold, rich flavors from your coffee grounds.

You can easily choose between single or double shots with the one-touch controls, and it automatically froths milk with its adjustable control knob.

Check current prices on Amazon or Bed Bath & Beyond

Your coffee lover will be creating cappuccino and latte deliciousness in no time with this espresso maker.

This doesn’t come with a burr grinder like the above options, so if you pick up a Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista you might want to include a bag of freshly ground coffee in case they don’t have any on hand.

4. Bialetti Musa Stovetop Espresso Coffee Pot, 4-Cup, Stainless Steel

This is a stovetop espresso maker or moka pot. The coffee it makes is much more like espresso than a regular cup of coffee. It’s one of our favorite ways to make coffee/espresso.

It is stainless steel (most are aluminum) and makes espresso in just 4 or 5 minutes. It’s easier to clean than the larger options on this list. You can get it in either 1, 2, 4, or 6 cup options. And you can also get extra gaskets and filter plates for this espresso maker, they last a long time but will eventually need replacing.

Check current prices on Amazon or Walmart

You can make a more traditional coffee with it (for those who don’t prefer strong espresso type coffee) by adding hot water after the coffee is made, this will make an Americano.

3 Helpful Espresso Pot Tips

  1. Always wash by hand.
  2. Don’t fill the water reservoir (the bottom part that screws off) above the circular blow-off valve.
  3. And fill the coffee reservoir with grounds, but don’t tamp them down.

Accessories for Coffee Snobs

When you think about gifts for coffee snobs do cool coffee accessories start coming to mind? If so, this might be the section for you. We’ve rounded up some great options.

1. Fellow Stagg EKG: Electric Pour-over Kettle for Coffee /  Tea

When it comes to a kettle for pour-over coffee lovers this one “takes the cake”. It’s a winner because it is designed with variable temperature control which gives you to-the-degree control, you can select your temperature ranging from 105°F to 212°F.

And on top of that, this little beauty will maintain your desired temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius for 60 minutes. Temperature matters because the bean, roast, grind size, and brew method all factor into the ideal brewing temperature.

Check current prices on Amazon or Walmart

Another aspect I love about this kettle is the spout, it’s designed for the optimal pour-over flow rate. It has a fluted tip, which means to-the-drop precision with no drip back. The handle is also counterbalanced which moves the center of mass back towards your hand – for a more comfortable, slower pour.

Anyone who loves pour-over coffee understands that a chubby spouted, awkwardly weighted kettle makes things difficult – and would be delighted with this design.

2. OXO Good Grips Double Wall Travel Mug, Silver

This is a well loved, leak-proof travel mug. It will keep your coffee hot for hours and will give you peace of mind because it’s double walled stainless steel. If you’re like me, you’d rather not carry your hot coffee in a plastic mug.

Check current prices on Amazon or Oxo.com

It’s both durable and easy to clean. The three silicone seals ensure no leaks, and the lid comes apart for easy cleaning.

3. Stainless Steel Milk Frothing Pitcher

This milk frothing pitcher is perfect for espresso machines, milk frothers, and latte art. It’s made of high grade rustproof/stainproof 304 stainless steel

Check current prices on Amazon or Bed Bath & Beyond

Your favorite coffee snob will also love the measurement scales on the inside and outside.

4. FreshRoast Automatic Coffee Bean Roaster

Wouldn’t it be cool to roast your own coffee beans, at home!? What coffee snob wouldn’t love to play around with this little roaster, getting their roast just right.

Taking coffee beans from green – to your customized favorite roast, it doesn’t get much fresher, or cooler than that.

Check current prices on Amazon or Fresh Roasted Coffee

This is an air roaster which uses electricity and is simple to use. It’s a great roaster for coffee snobs looking to have some fun at home, who are just getting started roasting their own beans. They’ll even be able to see the beans as they roast.

Don’t forget! You’re going to need some green coffee beans to roast. Ethiopian Yiracheffe beans are some of my favorites.

5. The World Atlas of Coffee: From Beans to Brewing

This book is definitely worth considering for your coffee snobs. It’s full of information about coffee, where it’s from, how it’s produced, how it’s roasted, tips for brewing and a lot more.

Check current prices on Amazon or Barnes & Noble

You’ll also find gorgeous pictures and artwork all about coffee, coffee growing regions, and the people who produce it.

6. 68 oz Stainless Steel Thermal Coffee Carafe

If your coffee snob wants to have hot/cold coffee on hand without having to make multiple trips to the coffee maker this would make a great gift. It’s perfect for home and/or office use.

This stainless steel vacuum insulated carafe keeps coffee hot for 12 hours and cold for up to 24 hours (cold even longer if you love iced coffee). It has a 2 liter (8+ cup) capacity, is easy to pour (one handed pouring) and clean.

Check current prices on Amazon or Wayfair

It’s great for keeping company happy as well, just fill it up and keep it on the table so no one has to keep getting up for hot refills. It’s double walled and made of 18/8 stainless steel. It comes with a 1-year warranty.

7-10. Z – Wrangler Coffee Beans from Kicking Horse Coffee

And last but most certainly not least are some good quality coffee beans. What coffee lover doesn’t like trying new coffee flavors? Quality coffee beans make a great gift for coffee snobs. I recommend Z – Wrangler from Kicking Horse Coffee.

These beans are a personal favorite. They are really yummy, and according to Kicking Horse Coffee they have an aroma of – “cocoa powder with sweet pastry undertones“, and the tasting notes are -“creamy maple syrup, hints of baking spice, sweet golden raisins with a smooth finish“.

And I agree; each time I have Z – Wrangler I taste chocolatey deliciousness. This is also an organic fairtrade coffee.

A few other coffee roasters worthy of consideration include:

All of these roasts are super popular and have some unique claims to fame. I would love to receive any of these as a gift.

11. Coffee of the Month Subscription

A monthly subscription is a great way to give a variety of coffee blends and roasts – and be sure that they are fresh.

1. Clubs of America runs a popular “Coffee of the Month” gift subscription. Every month, your gift will send 1.5 pounds of coffee (in 2 varieties), a gift letter, and newsletter. Choose from 2-12 month subscription plan.

See what’s included with Coffee of the Month Club

2. Atlas Coffee Club is another great coffee-of-the-month subscription option. I love that they feature coffee from around the world. The subscription has a fun travel vibe.

The bags are colorful, and the beans are freshly roasted. Each bag of coffee includes a postcard with beautiful artwork and information on the coffee’s country of origin. They also add a card with a suggested brewing method, flavor notes, and roast information.

Visit Atlas Coffee Club and enter coupon code ENJOYJAVA50 to save 50% on your first bag.  Atlas sent us a review sample and I loved getting coffee in the mail! I think it makes a great gift.

12. Angels’ Cup Coffee Game

The Angels’ Cup coffee game is something that coffee snobs can get excited about. (It is a monthly coffee subscription as well, but the game makes it even more fun.)

One of the games they offer is called The Black Box, it contains 4 bags of unmarked coffee. Each bag contains enough for 5 cups of coffee so you can play with up to 5 friends (or more if you use smaller servings).

The bags contain different coffees from different places, they do not indicate places of origin, flavor notes or anything else. The only thing they display is a number. Each number corresponds to a card which contains all the details on the reverse side.

The idea is to sample the coffee and make your own flavor note notations and guess as to the origin. When the tasting game is over you can either flip the card to see how close you came to what the experts tasted, or enter your findings on the app and compare your notes with the rest of the community and the experts.

Tasting is somewhat unique to each individual, so I think it’s cool to see the similarities and differences when compared among friends – and experts. (We received a Black Box as a review sample and I loved playing the game.)

Visit Angels’ Cup to check out the game and the subscription service.

13. Hairo Drip Scale and Timer

When someone becomes really serious about their coffee, they want a good digital scale so they can weigh out their coffee beans and get a consistent cup of java every time.

This Hairo scale is a popular favorite among coffee lovers, it has the ever important tare button which zeros out the weight of the container the coffee beans are held in so that an accurate weight can be obtained. It weighs in grams (0.1 gram increments) which are more accurate than ounces.

Check current prices on Amazon or Hairo

It also has a drip timer for perfect bloom times and pours each time (pour over lovers will really enjoy this function).
